Unanswered: Too many tablespace datafiles, how to fix ?

    Hello,
Our Oracle 10g database has too many tablespace datafiles :

For example, my database is 100 GB in size, ideally, I think it should be in 4 x 30 GB datafiles, however, in reality, it is in 12 x 10 GB datafiles.
    So, can I convert a 4 x 30 GB datafiles db to a 12 x 10 GB datafiles db in an online mode ?
Somebodies told me NO, what you can do is use EXPORT / IMPORT but in an offline mode ?
    Is it true ?
However, some ones told me another story : in 10g, there is a new function for us to move a datafiles's data to another datafile in an online mode, then, I can set the old file offline and delete it later.
Is it true ? What the function or command is ?

You may need enterprise edition to do the online move. Look here for the syntax, and remember to test vigorously.

    ALTER TABLE

How & why will performance change after making such a change.

You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.

For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
