Unanswered: Testing a link to be valid

    Friends,
I have an application that when it opens, it performs some initial updates based on linked tables. However, sometimes we have issues where the server where the linked table is located is down, or the table needs repair, and the program freezes. I want to test the database link to make sure it is valid upon start up and simply using a macro condition, if the link connection is false, skip that part of the start up, present a message box to the user advising them of the limited functions, and continue to open.

How can I use a function to make sure my link is still good before moving forward?

consider querying the tabels with eiother a recordset or runsql, and trap for the appropriate error
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton

That sounds like a plan, but not familiar with that method, can you give me a simple example?
