How is this related to DB2?

It is not related but your DBbackup and instance/user directory should have its own mount point in my opinion.

I would buy an AIX sysadmin book. I started as an SA before becoming a DBA like many DBA's I know.

You need to find out what os using the disk space 'du' is one way and as i said above you need to get the instance owner and db backups off that mount point.

If you do not know how to accomplish this

    1. Figure it out and get it done
    2. Tell your employer you need help
    3. Go look for another job
