    Unanswered: Correct Approach

    Hello All,

What is the correct approach for the below scenario ?

    1. I need to install 2 database servers in a lpar with the below details .

    a. First server

    Instance Name - db2sam1
    Database name - Masdb

    b. Second server

    Instance - db2sam2
    DB Name - Bosdb .

What I did is I installed the First server with the db2setup and I dont encounter any issues .

When i performing the second one in the same lpar I changed the dftdbpath to the different location and started the db2setup again . this time I'm encountering an issue where the configuration of the db2instance step is failed .

    Appreciate your inputs ..

    Sam .

once the software is installed you only need to create another instance. The command is db2icrt.
I guesss that the second install failed, because the Installer want's to setup an Instance with the default name and it already exists.

    Thanks for the reply .

But in my scenario We have created a seperate directories for both the installation .

    for db2sam1 - /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7
    for db2sam2 - /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7_1

    and also different instance directory

    /db2/db2sam1 and /db2/db2sam2

As you said, to create a new instance can I use db2sam1 user (which was installed with db2setup ) to create db2sam2 instance ..

No, you can't create an instance with the User db2sam1. You need root-Permissions to create an instance, except you are working with non-root-Installations.

Also you are get something dftdbpath is an instance-Parameter. It has nothing to do with installating the Software or creating Instances.

What's the error message from the setup or instance creation?

    Install db2 in /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7
    Create instance db2sam1 using /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7/instance/db2icrt

    Install db2 in /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7_1
    Create instance db2sam2 using /db2/IBM/db2/V9.7_1/instance/db2icrt
