ALTER TABLE is not a valid statement within JET SQL (the language behind Access). If you want to change the appearance of a table, you need to do so in the table's design.
10% of magic is knowing something that no-one else does. The rest is misdirection.

"alter table" is valid sql and is valid in JET (the default datastorage engine used in Access). bear in mind access can 'talk' to virtually any and every SQL datastorage mechanism out there.

when uisng a boolean value to represent a yes / no pairing the normal user interface paradigm is to use a check box with a suitable label NOT a combo or list box as there are only two possible outcomes. granted you could by jiggery pokery make the checkbox a tri state entity yes / no / null

I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
