    Unanswered: Datapump return code 5

    I have recently upgraded to 10.2.0.5.0 and now datapump imports often return code 5 where in 10.2.0.4 the return code was 0 for the same task. There are no errors. There are some warnings, but for acceptable conditions, like object already exists or role doesn't exist. Teh import reports success and the data appears to be OK.

    I cannot find what return code 5 indiciates in Datapump imports. Does anybody know or can anybody advise where to look for the answer?

    Question Me too

    I get all success and no error messages, but the return code from impdp is sometimes 5. What does 5 mean? There seems to be no docs about this.

    might actual answer be Operating System (& version) specific?
    It is OS status & not Oracle's directly.

    Just curious post COPY & PASTE of complete Terminal session that shows the 5 as return status.
    How can I reproduce what you report?

    Thumbs up Well

    Can't really do that. I was mostly wondering if there were some docs detailing error codes for impdp. Thanks anyway.

    found it in the docs...

    Essentially it seems to come down to
    0 = complete success
    1 = fatal error
    5 = error messages - check log

    Overview of Oracle Data Pump

    EX_SUCC_ERR 5 The export or import job completed successfully but there were errors encountered during the job. The errors are displayed to the output device and recorded in the log file, if there is one.

    Also, just so they're in the same place...

    EX_SUCC 0 The export or import job completed successfully. No errors are displayed to the output device or recorded in the log file, if there is one.

    EX_FAIL 1

    The export or import job encountered one or more fatal errors, including the following:

    Errors on the command line or in command syntax

    Oracle database errors from which export or import cannot recover

    Operating system errors (such as malloc)

    Invalid parameter values that prevent the job from starting (for example, an invalid directory object specified in the DIRECTORY parameter)

    A fatal error is displayed to the output device but may not be recorded in the log file. Whether it is recorded in the log file can depend on several factors, including:

    Was a log file specified at the start of the job?

    Did the processing of the job proceed far enough for a log file to be opened?
