Unanswered: DB2 Connect vs DB2 Data Server Client

    I need a DB2 Client (9.7)

From what I have read it appears I could use either DB2 Data Server Client or DB2 Connect

What is the difference between these 2 ?

What is DB2 Data Server Client Runtime ?

    Thanks

DB2 Connect is necessary for connecting to DB2 z/OS or DB2 iSeries from a DB2 LUW client. This is fee for license product.

Data server client includes some tools like Control Center and Configuration assistant, whereas run time client is only the client files with no GUI interfaces. These are completely free.

Would DB@ Data Server Client be the 'normal' way to remotely connect to a Linux server from another Linux Server ?

The data server clients include both type 2 and type 4 (universal jdbc jar file) client files, so yes, one of those would be the way to connect to DB2 LUW from a Linux Client depending on how you need to connect. If your Linux "client" is also a DB2 server, it will automatically include a DB2 client (for jdbc, the jar files are in $HOME/sqllib/java where $HOME is the instance owner home).

Can the DB2 Data Server Client communicate through ODBC as well as JDBC?

There is a recent thread on using ODBC on a Linux machine to connect to DB2. See if you can find it.

When I came back to my screen, the install GUI was not there, and I did not have a complete installation. I could not log into db2inst1.

I could log into dasusr1, I logged in, the das subdirectory was there, but the db2admin was not started

    Below is my response file:

    Code:

What should I do to fix this.

Should I delete all files from the /opt/ibm/db2 and install again ?

    Thanks
