    Unanswered: Too high expectations ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE?

Busy building & testing scripts to move various tables to other tablespaces/use table-partitioning etc.
Using the new ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE (be sure you have FP4) makes it all easy to do so online with an active database during daytime.....

    I had high expectiations, BUT:
    - to be able to move a table you have to drop all FK-constaints
    - when you are finished moving the table around, you must re-create your FK's
    - ALTER TABLE ADD FK constraint causes massive LOCKS

So, you cannot do this on an active database so the added value is NULL?!?

We want to run our database 24x7 and I really hoped the new V9.7 could help me.
Am I too pessimistic? Did I miss something?

Foreign keys are not yet supported for ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE. So you'll have to use the described work-around (dropping re-creating FKs) with all the implications. There is work going on to address this short-coming in a future version of DB2, though.

Hmmm that means that FP5 is "a little bit" too optimistic?

The next version is announced november 14th .... Guess where I will be at that date. It is in the country where they invented

    Nice try

No, I am staying closer to home (from where I stand). I am going to the IDUG in Prague next month. Prague is not too far away from the city of Pilsen Pilsner - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Maybe I'll meet some of you there?

Czech Republic is really nice. I'm there twice a year - on the race track in Most (just 3h away from my home town). There, I'm taking care of my part in global warming efforts.

p.s: I don't know myself what the referred-to "next version" is going to be. Maybe a FixPak, maybe the next release, maybe some other release.

I know, I agree. Been there a few times for the winter holiday. Because of lack of snow we had to travel to germany every day to be able to ski (Bayerisch Eisenstein im Bayerischen Wald - Home).

Last time I visited Prague it was still in another country and the Iron curtain was still closed. Wonder if it changed much.
