Unanswered: Post-Installation on a Mac OSX Snow Leopard
I installed MySQL on a Mac OSX Snow Leopard and got the mysql service started but I couldn't login as root to reset the password.
1. ./mysql - logs in with no username and no password but show databases doesnt show a mysql database.
2. Couldn't login as root either.
3. Neither did mysqladmin work
$ ./mysql -u root
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO
Is there any other way ?
./mysqladmin -u root password "password"
./mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
I did put together a video tutorial on how to reset the root password if it became lost. This might be of interest to you: MySQL - changing lost root password - YouTube
Thanks ! This worked. Yay ! There are some differences though. On my Mac 10.6.6, process usernames dont show up on ps -ef. It shows the userid instead. I had to just figure out the userid (0 being root and the other one being mysql).
