Unanswered: Question about restore when I upgrade to a new instance
Happy New Year Fellow DB2 friend,
I am upgrading from DB2 9.1 on AIX on server 1 to DB2 9.7 fix pack 4 on AIX on server 2. I want to rename the instance when I do the restore . Is it possible to do this without doing a redirected restore?
Here's my plan of attack:
1. Make a full offline backup of DB2 9.1 database on server 1
2. FTP backup image from server 1 to server 2
3. Install DB2 9.7 fix pack 4 on server 2
4. Create groups, users, das and instance on server 2
5. su - instance owner
6. Start DB2 on server 2
7. restore database
Is this possible? I got really mixed up when I began reading through the option of Restore command, e.g. To, DB Path, and On.
Thanks for any help you can give this new DBA trying to learn good practices and procedures!
It depends on how your tablespaces were created on server 1. If any contain the old instance name in its path, then they will need to be redefined using REDIRECT (for non-automatic storage tablespaces) and/or ON (for automatic storage tablespaces). Executing "db2pd -d <db name> -tab" will give you this info. You should also check where your active log dir is located.
