Question Unanswered: One too many index?

    Hi all,

I have one query that was returning fairly fast. A few indexes were created and now it seems to run forever. So I'm wondering if one of the new indexes is stepping on my toes and is slowing my query.

Is there an easy determine if an index is used while it should not?

We recently bought a licence of Toad for Sybase with the SQL Optimizer for Sybase. Great tool by the way to help generate indexes... maybe we over did it...

By the way, we're on ASE 15.

    Thanks for your help.

Use MDA table monSysProcessSqlText to check query plan.

You can just run the query with "set showplan on".

And then analize the query plan to make sure the joins are using the correct index. Much likely the its using one of your new indexes that is not the optimal solution.

You can force the query to use the previous index. ( if you know wich is ).
