    Unanswered: Converting LONG datatype column into BLOB datatype in Oracle

    Hi,

    I have a source data in a column with LONG datatype. I want to insert that data into a separate table in a column which has BLOB datatype. Please help

    LONG is a character type column, why do you want to convert that into a BLOB (binary) column?

    It's the requirement by the client and they have made their table structures like that.

    That sounds like a very strange requirement. What do you do with character encodings? How do you ensure future data will be stored with the correct encoding?

    Search http://asktom.oracle.com/ for the keywords "convert long" and you'll get some answers on this. Though the usual way is to convert them to CLOB. But the basic approach should be the same
