    Unanswered: DB2 Tablespace Auto extend

    Hi,
    Our system is - Windows 2008 R2 /DB2 9.7 FP 3a.

I have migrated the database from v8.2 to v9.7. Also, I have now altered couple of tablespaces from Regular to LARGE and reorged the tables/indexes.

Each tablespace has 3 data files (containers), split in three seperate drives and the size is fixed (around 20GB each. ).

The question is, Is it advisable to make the tablespace to Auto Extend?

what is the advantage /disadvantage making Auto Extend?

    Please advise.
    Thanks.

I think it's ok to enable autoresize. DB2 will extend the size when the tablespace is full (just make sure all drives have enough free space).

    Thanks for the comment.

If I change it to AUTORESIZE , will all three containers be extended with the same size whenever extends?

Or, one container will be extend?

    Thanks,

If all containers are of the same size (and they're as per the info you provided), then db2 will extend all of them. You have to make sure ALL drives have sufficient space for db2 to extend them. Or you might end up in a situation where db2 creates a new range and then only the containers that are part of this new range will auto-grow.
