    Hi

I am trying to create a report using the below data:

    Report_Date Base_Name
    2010-12-15 00:00:00.000 Main
    2011-01-27 00:00:00.000 Outer
    2011-06-27 00:00:00.000 Main
    2011-06-28 00:00:00.000 Main
    2011-07-18 00:00:00.000 Inner
    2011-09-21 00:00:00.000 Inner
    2011-10-11 00:00:00.000 Outer
    2011-10-04 00:00:00.000 Outer
    2011-10-14 00:00:00.000 Central
    2012-01-18 00:00:00.000 Inner

I want to create a line chart showing the bases, split by 6 month periods, on the X axis and a count on the Y. I have tried but am well and trult stuck!

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks.

How do you define your 6 month periods? e.g. January to June & July to December.

    Hi George

Yes, it would be from Jan - Jun & Jul - Dec.

    Cheers.

A query something like this (untested, just written straight from my mind-box) should give you the fields necessary for your report groupings.
    Code:
    SELECT Year(report_date) As the_year
         , Month(report_date) As the_month
         , Convert(decimal(4,2), Month(report_date)) As the_month_as_a_decimal
         , Convert(decimal(4,2), Month(report_date)) / 6 As the_month_as_a_decimal_divided_by_6
         , Ceiling(Convert(decimal(4,2), Month(report_date)) / 6) As final_month_group
         , base_name
    FROM your_table

    Hi

Thanks for that. That does give me the info in SSMS, but it doesn't allow me to display it in a line chart in a report which is what I'm after.

I have tried using the query as a view in the report but it doesn't display.

    Thanks.
