If you are concerned about the fact that the default instance(s) were not installed correctly, just ignore that error and create one with /opt/ibm/db2/..../db2icrt program.

I can't tell from you post, but if you are running 9.7.1, you should download the latest version and install that instead (after you remove the existing install).

    Can you translate this?

Also, check db2icrt log under /tmp to see if it contains any errors/warnings.
You can also try to login as the instance owner (db2inst1) and try to start the instance (db2start)

It probably failed to update SYSADM_GROUP dbm cfg.

Check db2icrt log under /tmp and try to start the instance. Also, execute "db2 get dbm cfg"

i ried to log with db2inst1 and i run db2start.
    this is the output

SQL8008N The product "DB2 Express-C" does not have a valid license key
installed and the evaluation period has expired. Functions specific to this
    product are not enabled.
SQL8000N DB2START processing failed; a valid product license was not found. If you have licensed this product, ensure the license key is properly registered. You can register the license via the License Center or db2licm command line utility. The license key can be obtained from your licensed product CD.

I thought Express-C is a free product, not sure why it's looking for a license. Never installed Express-C so don't know.

    What does "db2licm -l" return?

The install is botched. Need to remove and start over with latest version of DB2 Express-C.

Check if you have the following license file:
    db2expc_uw.lic

This license file is for Express-C as per:
IBM DB2 9.7 Information Center for Linux, UNIX, and Windows

If you can find it, try removing the expired one using "db2licm -r db2expc" and then adding it back using "db2licm -a db2expc_uw.lic".

    $ db2licm -r db2expc
LIC1417N The license specified could not be removed from the nodelock file. The return code is "-216". Check that the license for this product exists in the nodelock file.
