Unanswered: QMF 9 -- Need to see data types/lengths

Hello, we are upgrading from QMF version 8 to DB2 Query Management Facility/QMF for Workstation version 9.1 FixPack 12 running on Windows XP and Windows 7 and accessing DB2 version 9 for z/OS. In QMF version 8, there was a simple editing facility to input/update a table row that also showed each column's data type and length. We don't need the editing facility, be we would like to see the data type and length using the new QMF. However looking through the QMF and SQL documentation, I can't find any way to do that. Your help is much appreciated!

Don't know how to do it directly in QMF, sorry, but you could write a little QMF procedure that reads that information from the catalog: it's columns COLTYPE and LENGTH of sysibm.syscolumns (or TYPENAME and LENGTH of SYSCAT.COLUMNS).

Thanks Peter. A coworker showed me how. Select New Query and select the tab Prompted Query. Add the table (in Tables pane, click on plus sign and select table). Then in the Columns pane, click on the plus sign. This allows you to add one or more columns from the table. The selection box contains the name, type, length and precision if applicable, and nullability of each column.
