Unanswered: migration and file system change

We will be upgrading DB2 from 9.5 to 9.7 on AIX 6.1. We are also planning to move the instance and database to separate file systems. Is it better to migrate inplace and them move the instance and database? How do I go about changing database and instance to use different file systems? I was thinking of using db2relocatedb or restore?

If you can afford downtime, I think the redirected restore will be more efficient, and it will also migrate your database.

The instance directory is the home directory of instance owner. You should probably backup database, drop the instance, move the home directory of instance owner, create a new instance, and do redirected restore.

Can the instance change be done without dropping it?

I don't think db2relocatedb can change the instance home dir, you need to change the home dir of the instance owner and recreate the instance.

I need to perform a similar task - migrate db2 and reconfigure it to use the new filesystems. In addition to changing the home dir of db2 users, I need to change their primary group. Here is what I do:

    - offline db backup
    - db2cfexp to save config info (dbm cfg, db2set, catalog info)
    - drop db; drop instance
    - chuser to change home dir/primary group for db2 users
    - create instance
    - restore db and redefine tablespaces
    - db2cfimp
