Red face Unanswered: How to get the data's from the *.btr file?

    hi,

I am having few of *.btr files of data. But i don't have any DDF files and i don't know the exact structure of the data stored in that btr file.
How i can get the data's of btr files?...
In Pervasive SQL where i can go for creating .DDF files?.
In that the DDF Builder creates .MKD files. So .MKD and .DDF files are same or not?.

please help me to create .DDF files and get the data's of btr files...

Is there any tool for extracting the content of the .btr files?.....

If you don't know the structure and don't have DDFs, the only way would be to use the program that created them to export the data.
In PSQL, you can use DDF Builder to create the DDFs and table definitions. DDF Builder will work with .BTR, .MKD, or any other file name you've got.
There is no tool to extract data from BTR files unless the developer of the original program wrote one. Btrieve data files (.BTR, .MKD, etc) do not store field metadata. The record layout is determined by the application creating the files. DDFs have that information as well.

Btrieve was the product name in previous versions but when the ODBC and SQL engine were added, the name was changed to PSQL.

In DDF Builder, you can point to the BTR files and the DDFs created will reference the BTR files not MKD files.

Check out the tutorial at http://docs.pervasive.com/products/d...03.html#149193.

While the tutorial talks about MKD files, the same steps apply to BTR files. Btrieve data files can have any extension (or none at all) so it doesn't matter if the files are BTR or MKD or DB or any of the other extensions I've seen.

You can also try BtSearch at Pervasive Btrieve DDF Import Export, File Repairs. It can help you analyze the record structure and build the DDF files. Once built it will export to CSV format.
