    Unanswered: Upgrade problem

    Hello folks,
It's me again. lol. The thing here is that I was doing the downgrade with the assistant and got it right till 86%. After that I got an error message which was saved in my log. Am copying the last bit of the error.
If you know how to solve it, please let me know.
    Thanks loads!
PS: I have tried fixing it with the EMCA but is not working.

    oracle upgrade

Yeap...sorry for not giving much details.
I am currently doing an oracle upgrade from 10g to 11g...both of them in the EE.
    1. The first thing I did was to backup my database in case of any failure.
    2. I used the oracle upgrade assistant and followed all normal steps to perform the backup.
    3. The tool was upgrading the database but at 86% an error came out. I did't save the error but it said that the console needed to be configured.
    4. End results after upgrading: The database control - which usually comes out with the upgraded oracle database is not coming out
    5. The error message said that I could use my bin directory in order to configure the database control later on.
Steps I took to solve this issue
    1. I googled it but couldn't find similar problems whilst or after upgrading from 10g to 11g.
    2. My boss sent this link . I used the EMCA tool to get the console working but is not working.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue?
    OS: Windows Vista
    Memory: 2GB
    Processor:1.80GHz
PS: This is a computer to learn about Oracle only. Current database is almost empty but I have to think that I have extremely important data in it.
Thanks for taking the time to reply!

so what is the state & status of the DB now?
    Is DB now still V10?
    Is DB now V11?

    post results from following SQL

    SELECT * FROM V$VERSION;

    Oracle upgrade

    Hello,
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't certainly know about the current database status.

I phisically checked the files under the oracle 11g installation and the database which I wanted to installed has few files (adump, dpdump and pfile). The adump file is empty, the dpdump only has a file "dp.log", and the pfile has the "init.ora" (I believe if there's a init.ora file it means the upgrade was done but it seems it wasn't a successful upgrade).

On the other hand, to explain a bit more in detail...the following is installed when openining the all programs:

    open > all programs > Oracle > OraDb10g_home1
    > Database Control - toy (This database is the one am trying to upgrade)
    > Database Control - test (This is a database that was installed by default. I just named test instead of the normal orcl)

    Open > all programs > Oracle > OraDb11g_home1
    > Database Control - sandra
The "toy" database which was meant to be installed is not coming out here.

I also wrote the syntax you suggested in both of the sqlplus (Version 10g and 11g)
    This is what I've got:
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    SQL> SELECT * FROM V$VERSION;

    BANNER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
    CORE 11.1.0.6.0 Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.6.0 - Production

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems I am obviously fully settle with the 11g version but not the database. I recently wrote a configuration syntax in the promt window and this is what I have got.

La base de datos parece que si se actualizo a version 11, el problema esta en la asignacion de los puertos que va a usar EM dbconsole.

Quiiza eso lo componga, desde ona ventana de commando ejecuta:
    Code:
    rem # Drop repository
emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop

    rem # Create repository
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create

Issue with passwor or port number?

I don't really know what's going on with my password now.

LKBrwn_DBA, I dropped the repository and it was successful but when trying to create the repository something went wrong with the password or perhaps is the port number? IDK

I know how to change the password with the console or also with the plsql but I can't open them.

Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

PS: I have the same password for all of my databases so, I don't know what could have gone wrong. I tried with the default password but is not working either.

I think there should be a log somewhere which stores passwords...I don't think I could do something though if the password is locked and need to be changed.

Any help is more than appreciated!

Open command line window and navigate to the Oracle home + database directory (similar to this):
    Code:
    cd /d C:\Oracle\Product\11.1.0\dbhome_1\database
Look for a file called "orapwtoy" and execute the commands:
    Code:
    del orapwtoy
    orapwd file=orapwtoy password=<newpasswd>
    Now try to login:
    Code:
    sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
If you can login, then re-execute the command to create the em repository using your new password.

    Ooops, true...

    Perhaps test with?:

    sqlplus /nolog
