    Unanswered: MySQL Connection Pooling

    Gurus,

Can someone help me setup mysql server for connection pool behavior test in my personal lab.

I can use virtual machines or physical machine in my lab.

Being primarily DB2 DBA; I need this quick test if possible.

    1. Does standard mysql setup include connection pooling interface/software ?
    2. Do I have to write php/java or other program to test it ? ( having korn shell scripts already )
    3. I have 3 servers already setup ( 2 linux, 1 windows ) to play with. Do I need to add anything to them for enabling connection pooling ?

    Please help !

Additional refrence link will be appreciated.

    Regards,

Connection pooling is more consistent with J2EE type applications. For instance your Tomcat application server should be configured to handle connection pooling and in your code you need to indicate to use the connection pool.

PHP on the other hand allows persistent connections which allows connections with identical connection parameters to be reused. In other words they remain alive to give better connect times.

In both cases this is something that is handled inline in code or configuration of application servers than on MySQL itself.

    Hope this helps!!

To reiterate. MySQL does not provide connection pooling, it only provides client libraries used to connect to the database. Connection pooling is a specific implementation using the client libraries by an application server.

Thanks, where are 'client libraries used to connect ' found. Any download or already included with standard MySQL server/MySQL client download ??

The client libraries are to be installed on the client hosts. You need to download these separately.
