Unanswered: Adding PDFs to a table

    Hi All,

I have a SalesOrder table which includes all the details about a customer sales order. Each order is printed and I now want to add a PDF showing the print logo visually. I have about 5000 orders and growing daily. The PDFs are average 70KB each. Can anyone offer any advice on how to tackle this. I am worried that adding a PDF to every record will make the database slow down to a crawl. What is the best way to achieve this?

I will only need to open the PDF when the user requests it so I was thinking of linking a seperate database to hold all the PDFs?

    Any help would be appreciated.

store the URL to the PDF in the DB NOT the PDF itself
but be aware that you need to do some work with the OS to make certain that fiels don't go missing

users need permission to read, write and create to the directory, but not delete or overwrite.

one way of possibly handling this is to write PDF's to a holding directory and then migrate files from that tank to a more secure area which allows read only
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton

Thanks. That has pointed me in the right direction.
