    Unanswered: Need help with normalization

Can anyone please help!! I have a project that I have to hand in very soon and I can't put it together.
Its about a Video/Dvd/Game store that hire out DVD, Bluray and VHS and also game titles. I have to build an Access Database application with at least 7 tables. Each Movies and Games must have a unique ID beginning with the letter AA followed by 5 digits.

    Thanks

I would put them all into one table then have a feild called gtype (group type)
Which has Games,VHS,BLURAY only because when searching u only have to search one table also u can use the ID of the table as the unique ID making all the items(products)

If you hunt around on the net you can found a msaccess code that will create a barcode for you then use the report labels to create the barcode label

U can do the same for the members create the member card with there barcode on it
Just remember to have a differance code in the barcode so the computer knows what Been scanned.

There even some vb script on the net that will get the data from IMDB and with a bit playing it could full the database for you.

And yes I wrote one for friend I get free movie for the rest of my life.

Hi Myle, thanks For the quick response. But I'll need to normalized the database first so I can end up with at least 7 tables, before i start doing any Queries, forms and reports. Its an assessment that's due in a week.

Thats what i've done so far:

Table1: Customers (CustID, LastName, FirstName, etc..)
Table2: Rental (RentalID, CustId, HireDate, DueDate, ReturnDate, RentalCost)
Table3: Item Type (ItemID, Movies, Games)
Table4: Movies (MovieID, MovieTitle, Type, Category)
Table5: Games (GameID, GameTitle, Type, Category)
Table6: Invoice (InvNum, RentalID, ItemID, RentalCost)
Table7: Inventory (ItemID, MovieID, GameID, QtyInStock)

The only confusion is, How do I make Movies and Games become ItemID. As both Movie and Game will have Similar ID starting with AA followed by exactly 5 digits. Thanks
