    Unanswered: Mapping workstation applications

    Hi Folks,

I've been racking my brain for weeks for how to do this and now my deadline is fast approaching.

    Rationalization Database
Lists all desktop applications found on the network
Applications are categorized based on their functionality
Taxonomy consists of three fields: Family, Category Functionality

    For Example
Product Name: SmartFTP Client 2.5.1008.11 English
    Family: Communications
    Category: Internet Utilities and Applications
    Functionality: FTP

We are migrating to Win 7 and have rationalized our software portfolio down significantly. What we want to do is, for every workstation that has an application that matches our database, we want to show the Standard application for that specific functionality. For example, if SmartFTP Client 2.5.1008.11 is discovered on a users workstation, we need to be able to map that to the Standard FTP application which is WinSCP. Within our Rationalization Database, the FTP functionality has 97 distinct records based on Product name.

Is it possible to be able to do this mapping without having to add the standard FTP application in every record within the FTP category to have a 1:1 relationship?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Don't believe you'll find the answer in a SQL forums.
