Unanswered: trunc. log on checkpoint not truncating

    Hi All,

I have a server running ASE 15.5 with a database with db option "truncate log on checkpoint" turned on. However the transaction log is not truncating automatically.
    - nothing in master..syslogshold
    - no replication involved
    - data and log are on separate devices.
    - manual "dump tran with truncate_only" works fine

I tried dbcc tablealloc(syslogs, full, fix) in single user, but the problem is still there.

Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Elroy

    Hi
According to the manual the log is only truncated if there are mote than 50 rows written to the log.
Maybe you dont have enough transactions.
Try run the checkpoint manualy and check.

    Hope it helps

    Hi,

thanks for your reply. My syslogs table contains well over 50 rows, without the truncation being executed. So that's not it.

    Hi,

Did you check if there are any long running open transactions ?
Are the connections using chained or unchained mode ?

    Hi,

thank you for responding. It is my understanding that any transactional problem would result in an entry in the master..syslogshold table. Because this table is empty, I would say there are no open transactions.

We use the default transaction mode, so unchained.
