    Unanswered: Free DB2 bootcamp?

Has anyone attended free bootcamps offered by IBM? There is one for v10:
DB2 10 for Linux, UNIX and Windows Bootcamp - Information Management - Wikis (UAT Theme)

Or is this too basic and not worth spending time on it?

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

I'm debating whether to ask for permission to attend this free stuff or wait and take some paid training (if they let me). Some things this bootcamp covers - I could care less about and the rest I can learn on my own when I start using it. But if I can't take paid education, then why not... time off work

Even after the Bootcamp was described as worthless for an experienced DB2 DBA? I wouldn't go to the above Bootcamp even if my company let me take training days, since my work just stacks up while I am gone and I have to do it when I get back.

Hey I thought that us modern DBAs just had so little to do what with all this autonomic stuff that IBM has been pushing at us :-) We're all doing higher value stuff now right, or has someone been smoking the carpet again?

True, as a DBA (and the only LUW DBA), the work just stacks up. But before, I used to take 2 wks of external training every year, need it or not. And the urgent work was done by other people - nice time away from the office.

Autonomic and GUI stuff is only one day plus some Oracle migration. You can take a nap

why did you move to another company to become the only LUW DBA? do you like it better?

i moved the other way around - was the only LUW DBA in my prev. company and in the present company there are 8 of us (LUW DBAs) in a department. i like it better.

Rubles, lots of rubles... just kidding.

No, I don't think I need anything. Thanks for asking.
