    Unanswered: Removing expired license

    Do you know if "db2licm -r" is a valid command to remove an expired license?

    It doesn't work:

    $ db2licm -l
    Product name: "DB2 Workgroup Server Edition"
    License type: "Restricted"
    Expiry date: "Permanent"
    Product identifier: "db2wse"
    Version information: "9.7"
    Max number of Value Units: "480"
    Max amount of memory (GB): "4"

    Product name: "DB2 Connect Server"
    Expiry date: "Expired"
    Product identifier: "db2consv"
    Version information: "9.7"
    Concurrent connect user policy: "Disabled"
    Enforcement policy: "Soft Stop"

    $ db2licm -r db2consv
    LIC1417N The license specified could not be removed from the nodelock file. The return code is "-216". Check that the license for this product exists in the nodelock file.

    I know how to get around this error and remove it, but I'd like to know if this command is supposed to work or not. Has anyone been able to remove an expired license using -r option or this option is only to remove a non-expired one?

    I tested and verified that db2licm -r doesn't work for expired licenses, but the docs don't mention this...

    Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

    Which license were you trying to remove? Trial one that got expired, DB2 Connect?

    Can't remove it using db2licm -r once it has expired - this is a "product limitation" as per DB2 Support...

    You can try renaming nodelock and then adding the permanent licenses back as per: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docvie...id=swg21512232

    This technote is not accurate: you can still connect to the db (warning is issued), nodelock is not corrupted. If you're not clear about what needs to be done, open a pmr.

    There is now a technote published that describes my original issue:
