    Unanswered: ASM to UFS

    Hi there.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to clone an 11g Oracle DB from ASM into UFS .. using a standard RMAN backup set? i.e Clone from the backup and don't touch the source DB.
I managed to do this using an image copy of the ASM DB and then using the 'switch database to copy' command but I'm not sure how to do it using a backup set as the pieces are compressed.

    Many thanks for any info.

Yes, as long as it's same OS and Oracle version.
Check out the fine Oracle® Database Backup and Recovery User's Guide on this topic.

Thanks. Yes you're correct. I needed to restore the backup pieces to the correct locations using the 'set newname for datafile' commands before attempting to 'switch' the database. It works now :-)
