Unanswered: Problems installing MySQL 5.6 on Ubuntu.

    Hi Everybody,

I've just tried my hand at installing MySQL 5.6 on an Ubuntu box but have failed.

When I try to connect I get:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

I've failed to find any guide for this online. Does anybody here have any guides to hand.

The only reason I want to update is I need to use EXPLAIN UPDATE to test a query. Are there any other ways of doing this without having to install 5.6?

    Thanks in advance.

that error means the server is not running. have you given correct permissions to allow mysql to run after you have installed this version?

Ah ok, that sounds plausible as I had errors when trying to run mysqld.

Anyway, I had to get a solution so I just installed MySQL on my Windows box instead.

    Thanks for the tip.
