Unanswered: How to take delta/only difference data from a backup till now

    Hi,

We are planning to move DB to another box with latest release of IBM WCS.We have restored the DB a week before and we are updating IBM WCS and DB2(Updation will result in new table addition). So while setting up, some data in tables is changed(as it is a live system and customer are accessing it.) System is supposed to be live next week. So is there any ways where we can take the delta backup(only changed/updated/added/deleted/removed) data from the last week DB backup data and restore it?

We cannot restore the whole DB as it will delete the new table and data created during the update activity.

    Please help.

if you have incremental/delta backup on source you can restore these on target
if you have left target in rollforward mode pending - you could copy all log files from source since backup to target and rollforward..

Good DBAs are not formed in a week or a month. They are created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good DBAs.

    Hi przytula_guy,

I am not having Backup in incremental or Delta mode. We are taking only full online backup everyday at 12PM.

Also could not get your second way. Plz explain in detail.

Any other way to get the delta data from two backups taken at different time.

if the source db was enabled for archive logging (yes, because you take online backup)
at restore time (full) the target db will be in rollforward mode pending = waiting for rollforward command
if you ship all log files from src db since full backup start to target db, you could execute rollforward to this target pointing to these shipped logfiles, and all modif since full backup will be applied only..

    Hi Przytula,

To be more specific, we have rollforwarded the db after restoring the DB and then we have applied some fix packs in application. These fix packs would have created/updated more tables.
Now we cannot restore full data backup and we have not enbaled it for incremental/Delta backup.

We are using following command to restore and rollforward:

RESTORE DB MALL FROM D:\Shared\db\db LOGTARGET C:\DB2\NODE0000\SQL00001\SQLOGDIR REPLACE HISTORY FILE WITHOUT PROMPTING

ROLLFORWARD DB PMALL USER db2admin USING <pwd> to end of logs

ROLLFORWARD DB PMALL USER db2admin USING <pwd> QUERY STATUS

ROLLFORWARD DB PMALL USER db2admin USING <pwd> COMPLETE

ROLLFORWARD DB PMALL USER db2admin USING <pwd> QUERY STATUS

Not the backup. This has to be done at the application level. I'd consider DB2 replication, Infosphere CDC, or something similar.

he means this can NOT be done with the backup file
you need an additional product as indicated or an application to maintain this delta update
