    Unanswered: data recovery

    Hi all,
I am using sql server 2008. I was helping a friend with his database. His sql server 2008 eval has expired and he cannot get access to his data. Is there anyway for him to gain access to backup so I can restore on my computer without purchasing an upgrade. The only thing I can think of that may work is to download the free express version but I dont know if that will unlock the version to access the database in the eval version.

I'll assume that the SQL Server Windows Service has stopped on the machine with the expired Evaluation Version. If it has not stopped, manually stop it.

Copy the files that comprise the database (MDF, LDF, and possibly NDF) to the appropriate directory or directories on your Windows Server. Attach these database files to your SQL Server.

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.
