Red face Unanswered: Cannot Start the database instance

    Hi All,

I installed Oracle Database 11g on my own PC.Initially my ORCL database was in NOARCHIVELOG mode. Then I executed the following command to configure the archivelog destination.

    SQl>alter databse set log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=G:\app\Home\oradata\o rcl\ARCHIVED_LOGS\' scope=spfile;

    system altered

    SQL>shutdown immediate
    SQL>startup mount
    SQL>alter database archivelog
    SQL>alter database open

I issued the above commands and first all are working fine..

But after some time I logged the ORCL database with the username sys as sysdba but it says ...

    Connected to an idle instance.

then I issued STARTUP command to start the database.
but it gives the following errors..

ORA-16032: parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 destination string cannot be translated
ORA-09291: sksachk: invalid device specified for archive destination
OSD-04018: Unable to access the specified directory or device.
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.

When I issue " alter database noarchivelog" it gives following error..

    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0

The important thing is still my database at shutdown state...I cannot startup even nomout it...

please help me to solve this problem...

I am not sure if possible problem posting issue or real; but "o rcl" above caught my attention.

Does the location (G:\app\Home\oradata\o rcl\ARCHIVED_LOGS) still exist on your PC?
    Is your hard drive full?
How much space is allocated for your Flash Recovery Area? Is it full?
90% of users' problems can be resolved by punching them - the other 10% by switching off their PCs.
