    Unanswered: Noretrieve in rollforward

    Hi,
I am not able to understand how the 'noretrive' option of rollforward works and when do i need to specify it. What if I dont mention it?

as indicated in doc : archive logs will not be retrieved..
I have never used this option and I presume this will be used in very specific situations..

I use it anytime I restore a database using only the logs that are in the backup image.

My understanding is this: if there is a transaction (unit of work) started during the backup that extends beyond the end of the backup and beyond the logs you have provided in the log path or overflow log path, that transaction will be rolled back if you specify noretrieve, instead of asking you for additional log files.

I am not sure. I started using noretrieve since before "end of backup" syntax was available after occasionally having problems, so I have continued to use it.

My understanding was that end of backup just automatically calculated minimum rollforward time.
