    Unanswered: DB2 8.2 Installation on RHEL 5

    Hi everyone,

As required by a client, I tried installing DB2 8.2 on RHEL 5. After installation was done, some of the components failed to complete. Please see the attached screenshot.

I tried creating DAS and instance manually, but encountered following errors.

    DAS CREATION ERROR:
DBI1082E The file or directory /home/dasusr1/das already exists.

    Explanation:

A file or directory that the command needs to create already
    exists.

    User Response:

Examine the specified file or directory. If the file or
directory exists as a result of a previous successful completion
of the command then no action is required. Otherwise, you will
need to either rename or remove the specified file or directory
    before trying the command again.

DBI1079I Output is saved in the log file /tmp/dascrt.log.6641.

    Explanation:

All processed and failed operations have been saved into this log
    file.

    User Response:

Do not modify this file in any way. This file is for IBM
    Technical Support reference.

    INSTANCE CREATION ERROR:

    [root@DB2 instance]# ./db2icrt -u db2fenc1 db2inst1
tail: cannot open `+2' for reading: No such file or directory
    lcount = 0
    DBI1069E Unexpected error. Function = chk_fsystype, Return code =
    22.
    Explanation:
An unexpected error occurred during the execution of this
    program.
    User Response:
If the problem persists, contact IBM Support with the following
    information:
    o Message number
    o Function name
    o Return code
    o Problem description
DBI1079I Output is saved in the log file /tmp/db2icrt.log.5847.
    Explanation:
All processed and failed operations have been saved into this log
    file.
    User Response:
Do not modify this file in any way. This file is for IBM
    Technical Support reference.

PLEASE SEE THE ATTCHED RESPONSE FILE!

I have been trying this installation for quite a few days now. Please tell me if anyone of you has ever installed DB2 8.2 on RHEL 5 and it successfully worked. Could it be because of Java? (Current Java version is 1.4).

It looks like the instance and DAS were already created. Was DB2 installed on that server at one time?

By the way, V8.2 went out of service at least 3 years ago. You might want to consider using a more current version. Currently supported versions are 9.5, 9.7, and 10.1.

    Hi Andy,

No. It was a new machine and nothing was installed. I have tried doing installation at a RHEL 5 VM in-house but still same issue.

P.S DB2 8.2 was required by client. (Their previous server had hardware issues so they're setting up a new one).

Apparently, all prerequisites for installing DB2 are complete. I am still unable to perform anything.

Does it matter if you are trying to install i386 DB2 on i686?

Hi all. Though I'd let you know that I managed to solved the problem somehow. All I had to do was the following.

    1. Install db2 through ./db2_install
    2. Edit db2iutil file and replace 'tail +2' with 'tail -n +2'.
    3. Run ./db2setup and install rest of the components.
    4. Install IBM JDK and change the dbm configuration settings for new JDK path.

That's it. I got it working
