Unanswered: Device missing - database will not come online

I had a junior admin shutdown our test database and delete some files one of which was a newly add virtual device. Now I cannot recover the database that was using that device.
" and virtual device number 78) has not been correctly activated at startup time."

How can I recover this device or force it to drop?
I would then be able to recreate it and reload the database from backup.

    Thanks in advance

Maybe this article helps for a userdatabase too: missing device for sybsystemprocs.

Mark that database suspect as it will come offline only.
After that drop the database using dbcc dbrepair (database_name, dropdb).

Create a fresh database with for load option and restore it from backup.
