Unanswered: db2 instance is going into inactive state

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to db2. I have a shell script where we'll do first catalog database then restart db. While performing catalog it was successful, but when db2 restart was initiated it threw the error
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTATE=57019
which means db2instance is not started. If instance is not started how come catalog got succeeded. Is there any timeout as such that db2instance will go into inactive state.

    Note: This is on AIX.

    Any help is appreciated.

    thanks,
    chinni

also read the entry in this forum : read before posting
    always indicate db2 edition/version + platform
could you publish the commands you execute in sequence and the complete error message
client instance ? server instance ?
    catalog database - local/remote ?
db2 restart ? you mean restart database... command ?
if possible be very complete while posting - we can not see your screen ..

DB2 version is 9.7 and it is on AIX platform.

    Commands executed are:
    su - db2inst2 -c "db2 <<END >$TEMP_FILE
    catalog database testdb
    END"
    su - db2inst2 -c "db2 <<END >$TEMP_FILE
    restart db testdb write resume
    activate database testdb
    END"

And the output what I got is

To exit db2 interactive mode, type QUIT at the command prompt. Outside
interactive mode, all commands must be prefixed with 'db2'.
To list the current command option settings, type LIST COMMAND OPTIONS.

For more detailed help, refer to the Online Reference Manual.

db2 => DB20000I The CATALOG DATABASE command completed successfully.

Was the instance started prior to running the script? Catalog command will work even if the instance is stopped.

Ok. Thanq for the reply, we've not checked the instance status before running the script.
