    Another newbie in the forums

    Hi to all,

Nick here, physicist with MSC in informatics.

I am currently studying databases, mostly interested in TRC, DRC and functional dependencies stuff.

Do people in this forum talk about such stuff? If so, where would be the proper forum to post questions and such?

At least in my experience, TRC (Tuple Relational Calculus) and DRC (Domain Relational Calculus) are only used in academia. I am the only person that I have ever known to discuss them in a professional environment, and all that discussion got me was polite but disapproving nods. I don't think that I've even heard the terms used in 30 years.

Functional Dependencies are discussed in the Database Concepts and Design forum, as is Relational Algebra.

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.

If it's not practically useful, then it's practically useless.
