I hate to state the obvious but:

    >> Login failed for user 'XXXX'

User XXXX does not have permission to access the requested database.

Or the password is incorrect, or the login is not defined on the SQL Server instance. ODBC state 28000 covers a large number of cases, as I recall. all of them simply result in the 18456 message "Login failed".

What does your ODBC connection string look like?
Are you using Windows authentication or SQL authentication?

And you have been given assistance. You have been asked to check what he is logging in as, and the password he is entering. No one is curious about how you entered the password. How is the user from another location typing in the password?

Just FYI, but today is the official End-of-Life for Microsoft SQL 2000. It was a great product and had an exceptionally long life!

Check the SQL 2000 errorlog on your SQL Server. There ought to be an entry in the errorlog at the time that your login failed that explains the problem in more detail. Please post that message from the errorlog, it will help us to help you.

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.

Well, I am not sure about the rest of the folks looking in on this thread, but I am absolutely no closer to understanding you. First it was login failures, and now the problem has something to do with creating tables?
