Exclamation Unanswered: Brilliant Database Forum relocating

The Brilliant Database forum will be moving this weekend to a new slot on the DBForums home page. I don't expect anything to change other than where the forum appears on the home page, it will be at PC based Database Applications - dBforums along with other PC based databases.

    Pat,
Thanks for what you do for the dB community. I know that many times it certainly feels like a 'thankless' job but this site and those dedicated individuals that post here have been a huge asset to me and my Brilliant Database education. This site has none of the name-calling and adolescent behavior that is so typical of many other online forums. I sincerely want to express my appreciation for you, Pat, for watching over this to ensure that it remains a positive and helpful area where both inexperienced users (like myself) and seasoned BD experts can come together with all parties benefiting!

The Brilliant Database community has been especially kind in their comments towards me and the way that I've encouraged the moderators to run DBForums. It is good to know that our work is appreciated by some.

At one point, DBForums tried to come up with an all-encompassing list of rules... That was nearly the death of us, since it lead to usually heated discussions about the rules as opposed to about databases. Many of the ill-behaved were running rampant because there was no specific rule against their type of behavior. We've adopted a much simpler set of rules and those have served us well, but we probably need to formalize things a bit in order to keep up with the times.

spyroot doesn't need to worry about an active forum being "wiped" deliberately by DBForums staff... We've lost a few forums due to spammers crashing the site (although that was years ago), but we have never deliberately deleted anything but spam for as long as I've been Administrator (almost eight years).

Nothing is perfect, but we try hard to keep DBForums clean and tidy (by hauling off spam, porn, etc by the bucket full every day). I absolutely insist on civil behavior, if you can't say something so it would be appropriate in church or in court, then you need to rethink that thought until you can! I have no tolerance for calling people stupid, and only some tolerance for calling ideas/practices/etc stupid (although I have to admit that DBForums does see some DOOZIES now and then). In general, I try to ensure that we keep the place happy, helpful, and sane... That attracts the kind of people that I like to associate with, and those people seem to attract more like them!

I'd love to be able to help with more Brilliant Database technical and coding issues, but there are only so many hours in a day and not one of my customers uses anything like it so I can't justify buying a copy or even the time that I'd spend on it. I still enjoy watching you folks work through the issues, and I still chime in when I think that I have an idea that might help.

Uff-da! Enough of my rambling... Back to the salt mines!

I would like to thank you to all the administrators that are running this forum.

Now my lonely and frustrated days with dB have become brighter

The Brilliant Database should now be in its new location, just a bit further down the DBForums home page!

I'll "unstick" this message thread in a week or two after everyone has had a chance to read it, so that it will return to its rightful place amongst the other threads.
