I edited the 'runserver' file but it did not prompt me for a new password. THese are the steps I took.

    1.) stopped the server

    2.) vi RUN_SServer
    linux:/opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/install # cat RUN_SybaseServer
    #!/bin/sh
    #
    # ASE page size (KB): 2k
    # Master device path: /opt/sybase/data/master.dat
    # Error log path: /opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/install/SybaseServer.log
    # Configuration file path: /opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/SybaseServer.cfg
    # Directory for shared memory files: /opt/sybase/ASE-15_0
    # Adaptive Server name: SybaseServer
    #
    /opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/bin/dataserver \
    -sSybaseServer \
    -d/opt/sybase/data/master.dat \
    -e/opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/install/SybaseServer.log \
    -c/opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/SybaseServer.cfg \
    -M/opt/sybase/ASE-15_0 -psa \

    3.) linux:/opt/sybase/ASE-15_0/install #startserver -f RUN_SybaseServer

the server comes up but doesnt prompt for a new password

I tried this too and got the following error

3.) Logging in after lost password
If your site encounters any of these situations:
    • All System Administrator login accounts are locked.
    • All System Security Officer login accounts are locked.
    • The password for sa_role or sso_role has been lost,
You can restart Adaptive Server with the dataserver -plogin_name parameter, which allows you to set a new password for these accounts and roles if there is no way to recover a lost password. login_name is the name of the user or the name of the role (sa_role or sso_role) whose password needs to be reset.
This allows you to set a new password for these account if there is no way to recover a lost password.

    I have read that linux:/ # dataserver -plogin_name
dataserver: Server name missing or is longer than supported. Proceeding with 'SYBASE' as Servername.

You won't be prompted for a new password. A random password is generated, displayed and saved as the new password.
