Unanswered: single or multiple containers for tablespace

    Hi All,

in our new environment we have IBM v7000 SAN system with one LUN and 24 disks under that and db2 v9.7 fix pack 7.

my question is with one LUN do I still need to have multiple file containers for our tablespaces or just one containers is efficient to have good performance ?

notice that we will have 6 instances and 8 database on this server.

Thank you in advance for your recommendation and sharing the information.

You have one LUN--one I/O path. Making multiple containers on that one path will not help performance.

    Thank you Andy,

do you think if we split the one LUN to 3 LUNs and under every LUN 8 disk and create 3 containers for tablespaces on each LUN, is a better from performance of view? is there any waste of spaces in this case ?

Thank you again for your help

With 3 LUNs, you would have 3 I/O paths. That will allow I/O on different LUNS at the same time which will help performance.

I do not know about wasted space. It all depends on how the disks are configured for each LUN.
