    Question Unanswered: Data Help

Is there a way that when data gets entered into the table via a form, that it changes into a different set of data?

    For example:

If the name Jane Smith is selected into the form, and then saved to the Main Data table, it will instead show up as J1 on the table. Is this possible?

say your form has a combo box to select the name.

You select the name, and it can put a different value into the table the form is bound to.

The combo box can have multiple columns. While another column is bound. IE the Identifier, and the name is visible. This allows easier use for users on forms.

You will need to have the identifier already set in the table where you get the name from for the combo box.

    Ie if the table is:
    J1...Jane Smith
    J2...Tory Lane
    J3...Kyle Kennedy

For each name you select your combo box will be actually inputing J1, J2, J3.

    Make sense? HTH

so on your form you have created,
    create a combo box

Select the combo box go into properties.

Data tab on properties, if you click row source. you can enter or make a query of the data.
Row source type. lets you pick, query/table, value list or field list
and bound column. tells access what column to bound to the form. IE what column is the data you want entered. then go to the format tab to adjust what you see.
Column count: enter the number of columns in the list. and column widths, how big is the width to show. IE.

is this is your query list:

    J1...Jane Smith

    Column count: 2
    Column Width: 0cm;2.14cm

    This shows only the name,

    Bound Column: 1

This tells access that you want J1 to be entered
