    Unanswered: excel query

    i am trying to replace a cells contents based upon the contents of another cel so if d1='absent' i want cell a1 to be "A" and fill red any ideas please?

    Hi.
    In cell A1 enter:
    Code:
    =IF(D1="absent";"A";"")
    Now use conditional formatting in cell A1.
    "Format cells that contains"
    "Cell value equal to A"
    Format/Fill/Red.

    excel query

    hi
    thankyou for the response i also already have a =index match lookup in this cell can i add the formulae that you have given to me to this.

    =INDEX(friday!M3:M501,MATCH(A148,friday!B3:B501,0) )

    this is the command that i already have where it looks for a persons required hours but if they are absent i want to overide it and place an "A"
    and the cell go red
