I'am not a usual database user or programmer but I have one thing to ask everyone. I'm working in a Materials testing lab and we have several testing data stored on a shared drive. All the test results are normally recorded and stored on the drive using MS Word or Excel files (in form of formatted reports). We just take a printout whenever a report is required.
Recently, the drive data has been accidentally/intentionally (not quite sure) deleted and we really had a hard time after that (We were lucky enough as we had hard copies as archives). I guess having a data base to store the lab results and customized forms/templates to have filled with test data could help in storage and accessing results.
I really appreciate if someone suggests on how to go with this as I'm not a programmer but can handle customization related to software.
