    Unanswered: Databse views performance

    Dear All,

I am new to database and need your support to understand the views behavior.

We are using Db2 version 9.7. One of the table in our database contains 130 Million records. So we have indexed those columns on which we are searching for information.

Now, we have another application which needs data from multiple tables. So, we have decided to go with views.

Question: How will the performance of views to fetch the data? Will the performance be same as underlying table because columns are indexed on underlying tables.

    Thanks in advance,

Depending on how you implement the views, in most cases they will behave exactly the same as doing the same SELECT operations against the base tables. There are exceptions, but those are generally rare.

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.
