Hello everyone,

I'm quite happy to have found this forum! I've recently become quite interested in database design, and hope to be able to learn (and eventually help others) about database stuff here.

I was a chapel clerk a few years ago, when I was first introduced to Access 2007. All the chapel records (books, tapes, CDs, DVDs, etc.) were in Excel, so I learned to import them and started to learn Access from the help files. I really enjoyed learning this, and now am interested in pursuing it further. I am currently using Access 2010.

Right now, I am using "New Perspectives on Microsoft Access - Comprehensive" from Cengage to learn the basics. I like it a little better than the Shelley\Cashman series. I also just got a book from Amazon called "Database Design for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Relational Database Design (3rd Edition)" by Michael J. Hernandez, which seems to be quite informative.

I also just downloaded Oracle Database 11g, Release 2. I's way over my head right now, but at least I can see what the "big boy" software is like.

So anyways - thank you for what seems to be an excellent forum, and I look forward to learning all I can from you guys!
