The Oracle Production DBA is responsible for Database Modeling/Design, Performance Tuning/Query Optimization and Administration/Maintenance of mission-critical (24x7) Oracle Databases serving our company. The Administrator analyzes and resolves problems related to data, software, servers, usage etc. He/she also installs and maintains the software including upgrades and patches, monitors performance, maintains system security and makes recommendations for planning and budgeting
Candidate must have extensive experience in database design, development and administration of Oracle 10gR2, 11gR2 databases and Oracle Grid.
Essential Functions & Job Scope
o 7+ years of experience in Database design and administrationin the Unix/Linux environment.
o Work closely with development team to design and implement Oracle databases for complex business applications. Scope includes designing and developing client's OLTP applications and BI applications.
o Evaluate database technologies such as ASM, RAT, RAC and facilitate adoption decisions.
o Coach and mentor the development team members on best practices for database technologies. Collaborate with developers to design complex features, data structures and database code.
o Review and analyze the data model designs developed by application developers. Maintain data models and keep them up-to-date.
o Provides technical consulting in identifying, implementing and supporting new database technologies.
o Performs problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques. Tune existing stored procedures or write new stored procedures to improve performance or to resolve production issues.
o Ensure standardization of PL/SQL coding practices and adherence to coding standards, change control, SQL best practices.
o Plan for migration to future versions of any relevant products in the technology stack
o Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
Duties and Responsibilities
o Responsible for data modeling and data architecture as per business requirement.
o Administering Oracle databases within production, non-production and DR environments
o Installation, configuration and applying patches.Ensure that complete and accurate backups of the Oracle DB happen on a regular schedule.
o Maintain a change management log for the production environment.
o Plan for migration to future versions of any relevant products in the technology stack.Participate in DR planning and testing at the database application and physical structure layer.
o Performance tuning of Oracle databases interfaced with multiple applications. Responsible for maintain data integration and data governing across client web services.
o Work to ensure that associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases; work to ensure high resilience and do performance tuning.
o Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
o Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the database environment including rollout and upgrades.
Additional skills desired:
o Certification in Oracle is plus.
o Basic knowledge of SQL server database is a plus.
