    Database Design

Can someone give me some advice
I've been asked to make a new database for a charity, the old one is access and a lot of fields (30), the clients details and the client history with the charity all In one table? its seem to do the job for the charity, is this acceptable to have many fields in one table? and its is possible to break this into 2 tables and use the data already stored in the old database? sorry for the newbie questions.

if you are using a relational db then design the tables using relational principles
    don't duplicate data
    don't conflate entities
I'd rather be riding on the Tiger 800 or the Norton
