Exclamation Unanswered: Trouble connecting to MySQL from remote server [SOLVED]

We are hosting a php based website with MySQL. Everything has been working fine until last Friday. I get an infinite loop error. With further investigation, I find that there is an error connecting the MySQL database which is on a different server. I login to the server to verify that MySQL is running and restart the service then the entire server. I have checked the php configuration files to verify username and password matches. Deleted and recreated users using same credentials. Created new users and changed in PHP config files. There were no changes to the server recently... I am at a loss, please help. I am unable to authenticate to MySQL using phpMyAdmin.

    MySQL 5.5
    PHP 5.3
    Server 2008 Enterprise

    Solved

It was a dns issue. I created a simple php script to test the connection to the DB and got a reply back that connection was refused to the IP Address. So I just added 'root@ip' and problem solved.
