Unanswered: MySQL 5.0.0 [2003] vs. MySQL 5.6 [2013] from a SQL and SQL/PSM developer viewpoint

Are there big changes between MySQL 5.0.0 vs. MySQL 5.6? I am only interested in developer changes (not admin)
Can I use development books for MySQL 5.0.0 [2003] and use the code an recent MariaDB and MySQL releases?

MariaDB and MySQL diverged into separate projects quite some time ago. While they share a common history, I wouldn't depend on them being interchangeable.

You should be able to use nearly all MySQL 5.0 syntax on a MySQL 5.6 server. You should be able to use most of the MySQL 5.0 syntax with MariaDB, but there are probably some differences (you'll have to test your code to find these).

In theory, theory and practice are identical. In practice, theory and practice are unrelated.
