    Unanswered: DB2 Archive Logs Management

    Hey Guys,

We have configured our DB2 9.7 to run weekly online backup and archive logging with infinite logging. Some of the DB parameters as follows

    LOGARCHMETH1 - DISK:G:\DBS2\ArchiveLogs
    AUTO_DEL_REC_OBJ 1
    NUM_DB_BACKUPS 4
    REC_HIS_RETENTN 7

However, we noticed that the archive logs in G:\DBS2\ArchiveLogs were not cleared even though AUTO_DEL_REC_OBJ has been enabled. We have also tried the prune history/logfiles command but nothing works. Could anyone help to advise if there are other parameters controlling the purging or we would need to perform this on OS level.

    Thanks!
    Ric

    according the doc
    AUTO_DEL_REC_OBJ set to on :
he database manager will also delete the corresponding physical log files, backup images, and load copy images when it prunes the history file.

    Hi guy,

AUTO_DEL_REC_OBJ has been set to ON but seems like deletion of the logs are still not done.

I've you have infinite logging, which is your first active logfile?
If the logfile still have an active transaction, then they won't be deleted. (That's a guess! At least i want that the System does not delete these files )

according the first entry : archive logs in G:\DBS2\ArchiveLogs were not cleared
not active logs - they are never deleted/archived when still in use

The reason they are not being cleared is you haven't taken a new backup of the database to free them. Weekly is a bit long to go between backups. If you are going to do weekly, then you need to be able to store a weeks worth of archives.
